Oaths for Appointment of Officers and Enlistment of Soldiers of the East Timor
Defence Force
The Transitional Administrator,
Pursuant to the authority vested in him under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1272 (1999), of 25 October 1999,
For the purpose of establishing the oaths of office required by Sections 9.5 and 11.2 of UNTAET Regulation 2001/1,
Promulgates the following:
1. Every person appointed as an officer of the East Timor Defence Force shall take and subscribe to the following oath:
"I, _______<name of person appointed>
, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will support and defend East Timor as an officer of the East Timor Defence Force, under the supreme command of the Transitional Administrator, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter."
2. Every person enlisted as a soldier in the East Timor Defence Force shall take and subscribe to the
following oath:
"I, _______<name of person enlisted>
, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will well and faithfully serve as a soldier in the East Timor Defence Force, following the requirements of the service and the orders of the officers appointed over me."
The present instruction shall come into force upon signature.
